Saint Michael The Archangel isn't actually a saint, but rather he is an angel, and the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is what the title "Archangel" means, that he is above all the others in rank.
St. Michael is invoked for protection, especially from lethal enemies. He is also the patron of soldiers, police and doctors.
The Archangel Michael is honored as the angel who fought for God against Satan in the battle described in the book of Revelation (20:1-3). Because of this, he is the patron saint of police officers. A Saint Michael necklace is often worn by police officers or their spouse as a prayer for protection and safety.
St. Michael the Archangel is perhaps the most popular patron saint of all. He is the patron for over 50 causes and places. Most prominent patronages include; patron of military, patron of soldiers, patron of holy death, patron of police officers, patron of sailors, patron of paramedics and many other vocations.
Saint Michael the Archangel is also the patron of dying people, grocers, soldiers, fencing, banking, and artists.
Saint Michael the Archangel is honored as an Archangel in not only Christianity but also Judaism and Islam. He is considered to be the guardian and protector of the Church.
St. Michael has four main responsibilities or offices: - The first is to combat Satan.
- The second is to escort the faithful to heaven at their hour of death.
- The third is to be a champion of all Christians, and the Church itself.
- And the fourth is to call men from life on Earth to their heavenly judgment.
Prayer To Saint Michael:
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
